Walkers are welcome to join in the Mini Cumby to take in what the Cumberland Community Forest has to offer.

The CVRR and the Cumby Race Organizing Committee are happy to announce that over the three years of the Cumby, we have donated over $40,000 to the Cumberland Community Forest Society. The CCFS serves to purchase and protect the Cumberland Forest for its ecological, historic, economic and recreational value. The most recent Cumby race contributed to the current CCFS purchase to protect another 100+ hectares of forest along Perseverance Creek in 2018.  Our loyal racers and sponsors who support this race annually have made all of these donations possible. The CCFS is supported by hundreds of donors and the Comox Valley Road Runners are proud to be counted as one of the top FIVE fundraisers for the CCFS. We know that many of you are already committed donors to the CCFS. If not, you will be as a Cumby racer. As always, all of our net proceeds will be directed to the CCFS.

The Cumby 2019 will continue to take place in the hills above the historic Village of Cumberland. Race routes change from year to year as we are not only racing in an active logging area, we are also keen to take advantage of the variety of new and exciting trail systems the United Riders of Cumberland trail builders have developed. Our race route finder is committed to finding our racers a technically fast race with mostly runnable uphill climbs, quick descents with a mix of stream crossings and narrow bridges. You will not be disappointed as the vistas provided by your hard work are worth the effort. The Half Cumby route will follow the Full Cumby route to the half way point before a quick romp to the finish line.

The Cumby takes full advantage of the extensive system of trails managed by the United Riders of Cumberland through a trail access agreement between the Village of Cumberland, Timber West Forest Corporation and Hancock Forest Management. We thank them all for their collaboration in this worthy event.

We think our race alone is fabulous but don’t leave until you have tasted some of our great food

Awards Come and celebrate age category and overall winners during the awards ceremony directly after the race (2 pm). Our medals are handmade by one of our organizing committee members and we will have 1st , 2nd 3rd male and female medals for 0 – 19, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40 – 49, 50 – 59, 60 – 69, 70 – 79 and so on in the 13 and 25 km races.

In our Mini Cumby 5.5 km race we will have age grade categories to celebrate our youth racers  male and female 1st, 2nd,3rd  in the following categories: 10 – 12 years, 13 – 16 years, 17 – 19 years, 20  + (one category)

Why is there no age category under the age of 10 years in the Mini Cumby?

The Cumby organizing committee wanted to encourage younger racers to participate in the Cumby and planned a new shorter race. We wanted to provide reasonable age categories in order that younger racers were not up against older youth. It is a challenging 5.5 km course and would not be suited to younger racers so we did not want to encourage children less than 10 years to race the course. We made this decision thoughtfully and in consultation with youth athletic coaches.

You will want one of those medals so start training now.

Our 1st place male and female racers in both races receive special awards provided by our great sponsors.

On behalf of the Cumby organizing Committee and the CVRR please join us on May 11, 2019
